3 Awesome Nurse Valentine Gift Ideas

3 Awesome Nurse Valentine Gift Ideas

The perfect nurse Valentine gift idea is not as elusive as it may seem. Most nurses appreciate any thoughtful gift, but there are a few gift ideas that are truly awesome. Of course you could go for the traditional flowers and chocolates, but nurses work hard and deserve something more substantial. Also, flowers die and well, that’s depressing and nurses have to put up with enough sad things on a daily basis.

Can Whiteboards Improve Patient Satisfaction and HCAHPS Scores

Can Whiteboards Improve Patient Satisfaction and HCAHPS Scores?

The patient experience is an area of healthcare that can no longer be overlooked. Patients are routinely questioned about the care they receive through HCHAPS surveys. The results of these surveys can have an impact of the level of Medicare reimbursement a hospital receives. According HCAHPS to December 2014 summaries, 21% of patients did not feel like nurses always communicated well, 36% did not feel they were always provided information about their medications, and 32% did not feel the hospital staff were always responsive.

First Place in the AJN Book of the Year Awards

The American Journal of Nursing has awarded the honor of book of the year to The Nerdy Nurse’s Guide to Technology. The book received first place honors in the Information Technology/Social Media category.

Best Nursing Specialty For a New Grad

Best Nursing Specialty For a New Grad

Finding the best nursing specialty as a new grad is a challenge. Most nursing students are told that they should work at least 2 years in med-surg before daring to dream of working on a specialty unit. However many nurses, myself included, think that this is outdated information that may not be relevant to you. You read that correctly. It is a myth that new nurses have to work in med-surg before pursuing a specialty.

The Comcast Data Cap is Ruining My Life

The Comcast Data Cap is Ruining My Life

The Comcast data cap that has been put in place within the last year is causing serious issues in my household. For the first time in forever (yes, I just quoted Frozen), I am forced to be conscious of my internet usage or else be forced to pay the price (literally). At $10 per extra 50gbs, it can add up fast. To make matters worse, it’s leading to disputes between my husband and I over who is entitled to watch Netflix. As well as conversations with my son and I over whether or not he can watch another Youtube video.

Becoming Nursey

Becoming Nursey: The Inspiration Behind the Book

We’re all in this together; it should not be a fight for survival for new nurses. It’s a team working together towards the same goal – to give every patient remarkable and supportive care and support each other in doing that. Patients may forget your name, but they will never forget how you cared for them. And that starts with caring for each other.

Lightweight and Flexible Nursing Shoes: Are Minimalists Shoes for Nurses?

Lightweight and Flexible Nursing Shoes: Are Minimalist Shoes for Nurses?

Wouldn’t it be nice to have lightweight and flexible nursing shoes? Have you ever wondered if minimalist shoes are for nurses? Can you work a 12 hours shift in a flat shoe and still feel comfortable? Will they protect your feet? I was asked to review the Lems Lightweight Barefoot Sneaker and perhaps considering it as an alternative to traditional nursing shoes. (Full disclosure I received the shoes to facilitate the review. No monetary compensation was received) Most nursing shoes are heavy, made of thick non-breathable material like leather, vinyl, or some man-made material. Those type of shoes have their place on the floor, but I think that looking other types of nursing shoes.

Nursing From Within

Nursing From Within and the Jedi Nurse

Elizabeth Scala is a talented nurse that I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the nurse blog community. She is also a Jedi Nurse (more on that later) and has written a book to help nurses. She is always willing to lend a helping hand in collaboration efforts, and routinely participates in the nurse blog carnival. As an author of a book on technology for nurses myself, I know how important it is to utilize your network and collaborate to help as many nurses as possible. So when she asked me to participate in her book tour I was
