Being a NURSE means…
You will never be bored.
You will always be frustrated.
You will be surrounded by challenges.
So much to do and so little time.
You will carry immense responsibility
and very little authority.
You will step into people’s lives
and you will make a difference.
Some will bless you.
Some will curse you.
You will see people at their worst…
and at their best.
You will never cease to be amazed
at people’s capacity for
love, courage, and endurance.
You will see life begin…and end.
You will experience resounding triumphs
And devastating failures.
You will cry a lot.
You will laugh a lot.
You will know what it is to be human
and to be humane.
not written by me, found randomly on the internet. I think it says alot about nursing. If you know where it is from, please let me know. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

I don't know who wrote it but it is all true. (I am an EMT and I can apply all of that to being a medic as well). I can tell you that as my sister enters day 11 of being on life support in the ICU, the nurses are appreciated more than the families are able to show! I do thank them all the time but I am not sure they understand the depth of my thanks. It is difficult to communicate that when we are wondering if and when my sister will come home. You picked a wonderful profession!! I hope you know the impact and difference you have and make on people even when they can't verbalize that. I suspect you do!
I found Melodie Chenevert, RN listed as the author on two different sites. I love this poem.
