Questions about hospital IT (Introduction)

Hi,

My name is Jeff, I’ve been working in tech support professionally for 6 years, half that time has been in a healthcare environment, the other half working for hotels, computer shops and a major computer manufacture. I know that there’s a disconnect between the hospital staff and the “computer people” as we are fondly or not so fondly called.

I hope to be able to provide some insight, (sadly only from one point of view.) into how IT and nursing can work together, but to do that I want your questions. Not about how a piece of software or a computer works, (Unless you want some basics on computer use.) but more why an IT person may ask you (the Nurse, Registrar or even Doctor) a bunch of questions about your call.

To do this I’d like YOUR questions. I’ll take questions from comments and from email and answer a few of them each week.

  1. As a fellow IT professional myself. I know what you mean. We are all on the same team. Lets figure out how we can make the whole medical experience smooth and precise. I do not like being referred as the “Computer Guy”
