Received 1st Copy of My Book: A Bittersweet Occasion


Today I received a print copy of my book The Nerdy Nurse’s Guide to Technology. And while I was thrilled to finally have this book come to a fruition, I was not quite prepared for the swell of emotions that overcame me when I began to flip through the pages.

But then again, I’m not sure that any author is really ready for the first time we hold a copy of our book. I think of all the hard work that went into this book. Hard work that was not only mine but many on an editing and publishing team. And also the high hopes that we all have that the book will be a great success.

We do not set aside nearly enough time to express thanks for the many blessings that we have in our lives. I am glad that we have a day dedicated to be thankful and embracing family. Sometimes we forget just how fortunate we are and Thanksgiving is wonderful reminder to take a moment to count your many blessings.

In a recent entry I discussed landing a Professional Nerdy Nurse job, (Clinical Informatics Specialist). I could not be more excited about this. Not only is it an opportunity to do what I have been longing to, but for the first time in my life I feel like I’m going to be working somewhere that will value me for all I have to offer. I feel that like I will opportunities for growth and the ability to make real changes in the organization and healthcare. I also thrilled with how friendly and approachable my new boss is.
