Ami Honea, a nurse in Florida, was fired because she chose to flee the hurricane and stay with family in Atlanta. She has no family in Florida and did not feel safe leaving her family at home. From the news account, Ami’s employer did not provide a place for her children (16 and 9) to stay during the hurricane and according to Ami “I did what I needed to do, for the safety of my children.” Ami is pursuing legal action but does state she would make the same decision again. “My kids are more important than my job,” she said.
