The best advice I can you for twitter is to engage and share entertaining articles and images.
Also, longevity matters with this as well.

From time to time I search through and look for other nurses and tech individuals to follow. Most all will follow back and that will really help boost your followers.

Hi Brittney! Great post and as a relatively new blogger very helpful Good content and persistence seem to be mainstays of the process! Do you have any advice increasing Twitter following? Looks like you have close to 5000. That's awesome!

Thank you Brittney for following Amanda's case, this is from TruthAboutNursing.org

Fired for educating a patient? TruthAboutNursing.org, May 2012:"On February 1, the Phoenix CBS affiliate KPHO-TV ran a short but good item by Peter Busch about veteran local nurse Amanda Trujillo, who said she had been fired by Banner Del Webb Hospital and had a complaint filed against her with the state board of nursing because she had educated a patient about the risks of an upcoming surgery and scheduled a consult about hospice. A hospital spokesman reportedly said that "the doctor, ultimately, is the focal point that directs care for patients" and that "company policy" forbids nurses to order a case management consult. The report does not mention other accounts suggesting that these events were set in motion because the patient's surgeon was displeased that the patient had decided against the surgery."

My mother was a spitfire. We were like fire and ice in life. I have a great amount of respect for all she did for me. I am sure that I was so often at odds with her because I was so much like her. Of course my stubborn pride would never let me admit that to her.
I believe your mother and I came from the same pool of thought. I can almost remember hearing my mother repeat a similar phrase. :)

My mother taught me patience, faithfulness and perseverance.

Despite my brother and I being very healthy we come from very unhealthy parents. My mother had MS. She had it from the age of 19 to the age of 68. My father had lupus. He was in his late 30's when he was diagnosed and he passed at 56.

My parents remained married to each other and completely faithful to each other the whole way through. Right up to both of their passing (even though daddy passed 10 years before mom) They held their marriage vows and supported each other through thick and thin.

She taught me patience - she was handicapped. Motion was not quick for her and her days were allot slower then what I take for granted. If she didn't get everything done because she was tired or she just could not get to the store etc then it would happen another day.

She taught me perseverance. She was told she would never have walk - never get married - never have kids. She worked very hard and never gave up. She walked for most of my life - never ran - but walked. She had kids - two of us. She most certainly got married. She proved them all wrong!

I still have all her lessons locked into who I am. I most definitely miss her though. Very much.

His bedside manner was better than most people I met in that hospital. I am reminded of how much more I appreciate a small town hospital rather than a big university hospital.

Hey Brittney,
You sure have had more of your share of gross hospital experiences (GHEs!). The LP sounds awful! The resident's bedside manner sounds great though. (As it should be, right?) I'm glad you are home again hope your return to work is easy on you and all the empathy you may have gained has a positive presence for you and your patients!

Good luck on Monday!

It is good to hear from you!

Your lumbar puncture just brought back memories to me when they found I had meningitis. You poor thing. There has to be a better way - I wonder if they will invent one soon. Thyroid medication usually takes weeks to kick in, no? Wishing you the best. You have had more than your share of being in the hospital and not as the nurse.

Thank you for writing this post, it's beautifully written and straight from the heart.

I like your writings, so honest and to the point.

I was fortunate to have my mother with me until age 50, I'm 55 now, I lost her almost 5 years ago. Not a day passes that I don't think about her and miss her terribly. Even to have her for 50 years, it's not enough. I appreciated her almost all of the time...there were times when she was alive that I didn't, that I felt she was wrong. Now, that she is gone, I realize it was me that was wrong, she was always right!
She was an awesome mom, always there for us kids and for her family. She could cook and clean and work harder than 4 people and never seemed to tire. She taught me so much and loved me even more.
I miss you mom! I look forward to the day when we will once again be reunited in heaven.

Happy Mother's Day Mom,

Gail

I love your posts about your mom! I remember one you did a couple years back that mentioned how she taught you to read. Sounds like she was an incredible person!

My mom taught me to always have on clean undies too. She also taught me that I should watch my mouth because there is always someone bigger and tougher than I am. And then she taught me, "I better not ever find out you are starting a fight but if someone else starts one with you, don't come home unless you finish it." Yeah....she was a bold person!

Happy Mother's Day!

I love your posts about your mom! I remember one you did a couple years back that mentioned how she taught you to read. Sounds like she was an incredible person!

My mom taught me to always have on clean undies too. She also taught me that I should watch my mouth because there is always someone bigger and tougher than I am. And then she taught me, “I better not ever find out you are starting a fight but if someone else starts one with you, don’t come home unless you finish it.” Yeah….she was a bold person!

1,000 Shades of Nursing: Why are we “really” celebrating Nurses Week? May 9, 2012 By Amanda Trujillo, MSN, RN, @nurseinterupted:"There was an interesting tweet chat taking place this evening with regards to Nurses Week and how everyone celebrated their week or reflected on their profession. Several great view points were offered up. My own perception of Nurses Week is that it is a metaphor for every way our profession has stagnated, failed to progress, remaining fractured and at odds with itself about where it should be and how it should get there. Hell, we’re still trying to bridge the gap between academic nursing and clinical nursing. It’s not difficult to empathize with some of the views raised this evening: The disdain with the recycled food offerings, the traditional ice cream social that makes some of us seethe inside, the hospital logo stamped on nursing “swag,” the lack of any gifts of appreciation, the “lumping in” of Nurse Week with “Hospital Week,” or whether we even need the proverbial “pat on the head” as one nurse blogger put it. Im conflicted: As a profession—HOW are we leading, and HOW are we advocating?
