The Assassin’s Creed video game series is one of my favorites. Templar mythology and factual history along with knife slinging and bad guy beating come together to create a blissfully entertaining action-packed gaming experience. I expect nothing less from Assassin’s Creed III.
I am totally stoked to see the continuation of this epic series. Since I have played all the other game in the series I am chomping at the bit to put in some serious play time in Templar filled fantasy land. The latest installment has me particularly excited because the history is so close to home. It is set during the revolutionary war complete with founding father’s and familiar landmarks. I can only wonder what conspiracies might be fabricated in our nation’s history. You might say I’m like a rocket’s red glare or perhaps bombs bursting in air with excitement for this one.
THERE’S THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION YOU KNOW FROM HISTORY BOOKS. AND THEN THERE’S THE REVOLUTION YOU’LL BE FIGHTING, SET IN A WORLD THAT’S FAR MORE REALISTIC, GRITTY, AND ALIVE THAN ANY HISTORY BOOK EVER COULD BE.
I’ve followed much of the early news of the game with this release that will starring an assassin named Connor and possibly involving meeting key figures in American history like George Washington and Ben Franklin. With all the amazing plots and twists and turns in previous games who’s to say if even our founding fathers will be safe from the assassin’s blade in this digital imagination of the Revolutionary war. I’m thrilled to see what the assassin has in store for the Templars in this new game.
In the last game my son and I enjoyed all the parkour (which is free-running if you haven’t already played). He particularly enjoyed climbing up and down the ladders in the city. I guess this is great fun to a toddler. I must admit that I myself look forward to the new free running areas like through forest and dashing through the tree and brush. Also with the addition of hunting and stalking animals from the trees, I wondering if I will be reminiscent of moments were Katniss Everdeen stalked deer in the forest during the hunger games. I will be putting myself into her shoes with a bow and only my wits to take out my prey and possible assassination targets. It all sounds to me to be like great fun and I am on the edge of my seat for this new adventure.
The combat has always been excellent often based on counter measures rather that being on full offensive. Riming and clever button manipulation are required over obsessive mashing like many other games. Speaking of button mashing the control scheme is great.
