My husband and I have started planning meals and incorporating fresh vegetables and home cooked meals into our diets. With a growing toddler, who refuses to eat almost anything besides oatmeal and “choc-lot brownie,” it is certainly a challenge to accomplish this with any ounce of sanity. However, there are still times when a frozen dinner is just more feasible and it is nice to have practical, affordable, and satisfying alternatives.
Weight watchers has a new line of product: Satisfying Selections™ from Weight Watchers® Smart Ones®. They idea behind these it to provide a more satisfying frozen meal experience. You can prepare them in the microwave or skillet. The total preparation time is less than 10 minutes and it’s definitely a step up from your traditional “TV Dinner.”
At $3.69 retail ($3.99 in my local Publix) the value of the product is reasonable. Considering it is a weight watching solution, it is in line with other products of the same variety. There are several varieties and they are all less than 400 calories, 8-10 weight waters PointsPlus™ and 25 grams or more of protein. I would say that the portion size and the amount of meat protein in the product are higher than those of the same price range.
Meal choices include:
Sesame Chicken ○ Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo ○ Ziti with Meatballs & Cheese ○ Chicken with Broccoli & Cheese ○ Chicken Teriyaki Stir Fry Sizes
I personally tried Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo and Chicken with Broccoli & Cheese. In general I find you can’t go wrong with any combination of Chicken, Broccoli, and cheese, and this winning combination proved again to be a success.
While nothing beats a home cooked meal, the portion size and taste of the food were satisfying and above expectations for taste and quality. The meal was also quick and easy to prepare. It is marketed for a dinner solution, but I really feel that this is a great solution to keep at the office for those days when you just cannot break away from your desk but want a filling and microwavable meal.
There are days when I’m covered in testing EMR updates or regulatory changes and I sometimes forget to break for lunch. I’ll be glad to have something like this on hand to refuel for serious chart digging and other nerdy nurse things.
American portions are grossly inflated, and we’ve become accustomed to a larger than required serving size in order to feel satisfied. Although you won’t walk away feeling like you’ve were treated to a steak dinner, the quantity of food was very satisfying.
While I would like to see this priced under the $2.99 mark, I would recommend it as a quick, convenient and satisfying meal choice for those times when you just can’t cook a meal from scratch. With the holiday’s upon us, the Satisfying Selections™ from Weight Watchers® Smart Ones® are a good way to keep your calories in check on the days when you’re not completely surrounded by carbs.
