Once again, Those Emergency Blues has touched a subject that I think rocks. Apparently, Ontario, Canada is having this marketing plan that is treating nurses like Pro Atheletes and this nurse thinks that is pretty rad.
If Only RNs were Valued the Way Pro Athletes Are
I am inspired by the possibilities that this could have for the image of nursing. Little boys often aspire to be pro athletes and collect their cards and memorabilia, who is to say that little girls (or boys, for that matter) shouldn’t have other alternatives to use as their childhood heroes. It would be a nice change of pace to have children have a light in their eyes for a profession that is actually attainable and can make a positive impact that can radiate to effect as many lives a pro-athlete might. Or at least, that’s how my lofty visions of nursing see this.
I am so proud of the profession I have chosen and would would be moved to see something like this campaign happen in the states. If nothing else, it could show children a a different option to have as their heroes.
What do you think about this marketing plan? How do you think this effects the image of nursing? Is this how you think nurses should be seen?

As I said on Those Emergency Blues’ site, I absolutely freaking love it. I might be overly defensive, but I’ll bet there are probably those out there who don’t feel it is serious enough or “professional” enough. Those people like the Community College who freaked out about the Facebook photo, need to have some humor and get a life. I think these are great
I would say it’s a brilliant campaign. I have often wondered why athletes are so highly paid for doing something that is nowhere near what nursing is….
