Guess I’ll just ride on this bandwagon and type up my musings and random reflections for the last years and goals for the year to come. It’s a good thing to do really. If we aren’t reminded of our history, we are doomed to repeat it, and if we do not plan for a positive future, then we very well may have a negative one.
If all goes as planned, I will complete my BSN degree in May, which means new possibilities in the Nursing career department. This also means new decisions for me to make. I have high hopes that there will be a position for me in informatics where I am at, but if there is not, what will I do? Will I stay on the floor? Will I continue to work in a setting where there is little to know opportunity for investment? Likely not, but I do have some big decisions to make that likely mean changes for me and my family.
Here are the positive things I plan to do in the coming year:
-Be productive in my off time.
I spend far too much time lounging around, sleeping in, and procrastinating. There are things I want to accomplish in my home and personal life that I tend to keep putting on the back burner. I plan to make an increased effort to get off my ass and get stuff done.
-Cook More
Not only do we waste a ridiculous amount of money on eating out, in general, its not healthy. I want to make a increased effort to prepare more meals and eat as a family. I want to broaden our culinary horizons, expand our pallet, and try new and different things. Stop going for comfort foods, and go for foods that are nutritious and delicious. Of course this will take away someww112 much coveted ass-sitting time, but this will be positive, and I can take that 2nd bird out with the same stone.
-Be more aware of my appearance
A dear friend has made me increasingly more aware of the fact that in order to accomplish your goals, it is necessary to look the part. I want to embrace a little bit more girly in my life, refrain from lounging around (again less ass-sitting), and treat every outing as an opportunity to impress. I’m going to attempt to “dress for success”.
-Thank God more often
As much as I know that positive things in life come from handwork and dedication, I also realize that greatness is not entirely accomplished on your own. We are given strength and allowed to complete our goals because of a higher power. We are not all powerful. We cannot control everything, and sometimes we need to be humble and thankful for the opportunities we are given. I am guilty of often having to have to much control over things I cannot control. I am going to make an effort to have faith and give some things over to God and know that he will take care of the things I cannot.
-Write More
Isn’t this the standard blogger “resolution”. Yea I went there. Can’t help it. The best way to document ones ideas, grow, learn, and influence is write it out. I want to make a bigger effort to blog about important nursing issues that matter to me, spend more time writing on pieces for MyRealityTech.com, and general life musings. Since I’m sure the entire word is just sitting on the edge of their seat with anticipation of what utters I may have. Yes… I’m sure of that. But much of this writing will be for me, and if you happen to enjoy it, I am flattered and humbled, if you don’t, well then you aren’t thinking positively enough!
-Think Positively
After hearing the first 20 minutes of the Audio Book “The Secret” nearly 100 times (thanks to my mother and her inability to pick up where she left off), I have made an effort to attempt to be positive in any situation. This is of course, more easily said than done. However, throughout this past year, I have learned that Karma is real and if we think positive and act positive, we will attract positive things in our life. There is much to be said for the power of perception, and I am going to increase my effort to think positively and make lemonade out of lemons. It has done great things for me so far, and I anticipate it doing man more.
If we look for the negative, we will surely find it. If we look for the positive we surely find that as well. It is all about what you are looking for. So I will choose to look for the positive.
My good friend Jenna has given some great tips about being positive, a great read, and a good mindset to start the year with. I for one, don’t attribute her success to luck, but agree with the hard work and dedication assessment. However, luck and positive thinking are so closely intertwined, but likely this is her real secret. Be sure to read: These Have Always Brought Me Luck: Jenna’s Special New Year Letter
