Some of the fondest memories of my mother are being with her when she would give a child an educational toy. Quite honestly, I cannot think of a toy she bought that was not educational. If it did not cater to some form of learning, it was not worth her dime. She had very good reasons for this educational only toy policy, and I am thankful that I
am a product of it.
My mother, a very creative and determine woman, live her life with an overwhelming secret: She couldn’t read. As a functionally illiterate adult, she suffered great social anxieties in new places, the grocery store, driving a car, and anywhere that there might be a possibility that someone would ask her to read something.
She got very good over the years of pretending she wasn’t interested, passing the papers along as if she didn’t know what they were intending, acting as if her prescription in her glasses was failing her, and always holding on to every word I would read to her from any piece of literature she could get me to.
I wish she could see my son. I wish she had an opportunity to teach him the lessons she taught me. I wish she would have the chance to instill in him the value of hard word, the joys of completing a project you start, and the drive to persevere even when life throws you a hard ball. Because illiteracy, is quite a hard ball, but my mother did her best to swing at every throw, and only occasionally struck out.
Call me emotional, sentimental, girly, or whatever else you would like, but when I was browsing the pages of ebeanstalk.com and looking at the various kids toys, I couldn’t help but think of how my mother would want Ty to have every single item they carried (except maybe the pink stuff). Fortunately, they don’t list every single toy available on the planet in their inventory. In fact, a team of experts and mothers sorted through over 10,000 toys and weeded out the duds. They have taken the time to hand select the best toy for your little boy or girl.
The toys are educational, bright, cheerful, and many offer a classic design that are built to last. I have only ever seen one other collection of kids toys that were as unique and charming as I have seen on ebeanstalk.com, and they certainly had a price tag to match. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the majority of the toys are very reasonably priced.
Since my son in 18 months old, I was looking specifically for toddler toys. With one simple click I am taken exactly where I need to be to find toys appropriate for my little boy. No drop-down menus, no annoying scripts, no difficulty to read fonts. The drop down menu is there if you want a different approach, but you don’t ever have to click it as the most functional part of the site is already laid out for you. A right-sided menu with age rages from Baby Toys to Toys for 8-12 year olds, of of course everything in between. Including my pick, Toys for 2 year old boys.
First off, I can tell you that my mother would have ensured Ty to have had one of these :
Yes, that’s a John Deere Utility Tractor, and no we are not farmers. However, she would not be able to resist the urge of putting my little blonde haired handsome man in a pair of overalls, flannel shirt, and asking him to repeat the phrase “Git R’ Done”.
Fortunately, she would have also wanted other things for him like these little ditties:
Little Doctor Kit:
Shape Sorting Clock
Billy Big Wheels
Fortunately, she be spared the expense of the Retro Rocket, since pappy already knocked that one out for her. And we couldn’t be more happy with it as it is a vital part of his Toddler Astronaut Halloween Costume!
So, to make the point clear, I had a great browsing experience at ebeanstalk.com. I was pleased with the selection and attention to detail that was paid to their website design and choice of products to feature. I’m also especially pleased that they choose mothers like me to help them pick out toys for children.
Take the time to visit ebeanstalk.com and see for yourself. And if you’re interested in sending my boy something, pick anything in the Toys for 2 year old boys section. If he doesn’t love it, I’m sure he’ll love the white box it comes in.

Oh my god, they’ve got the original parking garage! I’m buying it for myself.
Lol. They do have a very ecelectic collection of toys. Really it's nice to see toys that aren't completely plastic, covered in stickers, and making tons of obnoxious noises and lights to throw your kid in a seizure

He looks so damn cute in that costume and in the box!!!!!!!!!! There is so much I wish my mom could be here to see as well and what a wonderful job you did honoring your mom in this post!
do they have the rocket astronout costume in life size ? i mean for adult.
cheers
Fickle Cattle: Whole heartily agreed. They are actually sending me a toy to test and review for my son, should be here any day now. Would flip my freakin' lid of they sent that!
thank you for saying I honored her, i appreciate that.
Nicki: Always excited to see you have read my posts! And thank you. I am so proud of him. can't believe I made him, you know? And thank you for saying I honored my mother, we often did not see eye to eye in life, and after becoming a parent and desperately wanting her guidance, many of the lessons she tried to teach me make sense and I am sorry I couldn't just give in when I was younger. Then again, she is the same way, and imitation is argued to be the sincerest form of flattery.
I really wish she could have met my son. It would have given her so much meaning to her life. She always loved babies and children. Before they were able to out read her, she always shined the best. She loved to teach and loved every opportunity to share something she knew with others, especially children. Who ever knew this silly little blog would make me a cry baby, but here I sit blubbering away.
Pixie, yes they do!

Astronaut Suit Adult Costume
But I am actually making my husband one to match my son out of a white paint suit, nylon straps/ext.
Well, I intend to anyways. Apparently my husband wants to be Forrest Gump, astronaut, and Ty to be the space chimp "sue"
It was obvious in the post that you have a lot of love for her. I feel bad as well that it is now "too late" for stuff with my mom and I pray every day she can hear me…well, when I am not griping about her. =))
