I’m really excited about the new Apple TV. ![]()
Since they dropped the absurd former price tag of $229 and lowered it to a much more consumer friendly $99, I see big things happening this Christmas with Apple TV.
Netflix streaming is something my husband and I enjoy quite frequently. I am not a big fan of watching movies/tv on my computer, but I do quite enjoy having the content available on my 1080p Samsung plasma (that I got for a steal at $650 2 years ago!) And now, thanks the long awaited Netflix app, on my iphone too! Right now we primarily use our PS3 to watch Netflix, and even though I am amazed with this, it is still a sometimes a hassle for us. Why? Well, you see, I have this little boy who loves to play with mommy and daddy’s toys. It doesn’t matter that he has a room full of his own, whatever it is that I have is always better. The remote controls are some of his favorite, as well as the PS3 controller. And, no, I don’t have a smart remote. That’s one $300 investment I just cant see to make. Why? All the ones I’ve tried require a degree from MIT to get to work and that’s only if they can even be programmed to work with Comcast. Even if you get the remote to actually work, it takes 5 minutes for it to send signals to everything. So if we want to watch something on Netflix it requires use of minimum of 2 remotes, and then the hiding of said remotes shortly thereafter. (And make sure that you turn the PS3 controller off, of when you shift in your chair your movie may fast-forward!) Since TV is a lazy activity, call me crazy, but I really don’t want to put that much effort into it.
I’m hoping that Apple TV can remedy that. Since my iphone is pretty much fused to my hand, the use of Apples Remote App will eliminate at least 1 remote for me, and therefor one more distraction from my grabby little munchkin. Which means we can hopefully avoid another image like this—>
I call it the “Mommy wouldn’t give me back her iphone after I started deleting her apps, so I bit her” meltdown. I understand his pain, if someone took my iphone away from me, I’d probably bite them and have a meltdown too. I’m creating a tech lovin’ toddler monster… Is it terrible that I’m trying to find him an itouch on the cheap?
Yea… I know… but have him bite you a few times for your iphone and you’d probably just hand yours over!
I think this pretty much sums up what excites me about Apple TV:
If it’s on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, it’s on Apple TV.
You can already stream music, photos, and video from your computer to Apple TV. With AirPlay, you can stream it all from your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, too. So if you feel like watching a movie you have on one of your devices, you don’t need to rent or buy it again. Just tap to start playing content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then tap again to instantly stream whatever you’re watching — or listening to — directly to Apple TV. AirPlay is coming soon to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch near you.1
How it works
- Start watching a movie or TV show on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
- Tap the AirPlay icon and choose Apple TV.
- Whatever you’re watching will instantly begin streaming to your widescreen TV.

So here’s to one less remote for Ty to have a meltdown over and one more way for apple to win me over. Those apple fan-boy (or is it fan-girl?
) names are starting to kind-of have a ring to them.
So is this a check in the pro or con list for the ipad? I’m thinking Pro.

I'm glad you found me! Anyone who posts about Apple products is a friend of mine! (I love all things nerdy, see these posts:

I think you'll get a kick out of them!
I am definitely too computer illiterate for this but I can see why it would ROCK for you! I love the meltdown pic but sorry you got bit! I don't miss those days at all. I have a pic of my daughter having a meltdown while on the toilet because I wouldn't let her eat Cheese Puffs in the tub. It is awesome blackmail!!
